Obesity Caused by Neighborhoods? Lots of Walking and Good Restaurants in Penn Quarter

Penn Quarter in Washington DC is a Vibrant Neighborhood that Gets you Off Your Couch

According to the Real Estate Intelligence Report, San Diego University psychologist and researcher James Sallis contends that the modern neighborhood is designed so that residents get a minimum amount of exercise, which leads to obesity in the United States. Sallis told the American College of Sports Medicine that Americans have refused to demand more money for parks, recreational bike and jogging paths, while at the same time developing car-dependent communities that don’t even allow for walking to mass transit stops. He asserts that exercise opportunities must be involved in development planning. Penn Quarter is pedestrian friendly, the National Mall is in walking distance and plenty of bike paths to choose from. Check out the Capitol Crescent Trail. CCT is a shared used trail from Georgetown to Silver Spring.
